Hong Kong Toys Council (¡§HKTC¡¨), under the auspices of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, has been dedicated for more than 20 years to promote the development of the local toy industry and safeguard its benefits via different channels. With the impacts of global economic depression, minimum wage policy in the Mainland and the enforcement of EU and US toy safety requirements in the recent years, the toy industry has been facing enormous pressure in such devastating business environment. HKTC will certainly play a particularly important role and continue our efforts to reflect the views and needs of the toy industry to various local and overseas authorities through our established network.
With the enforcement of EU and US toy safety requirements including chemical safety requirements, limitations on conflict minerals etc., the policies have become more complicated than ever before. To provide the toy industry with more first-hand market information, updates of policies and technology upgrade, HKTC organises a variety of training, seminars and workshops. The development of Chemical Database Management in 2011 also assists manufacturers and brands to comply the new EU toy safety directives.
Besides, the rapid growth of technology has brought impacts to the toy industry. Children tend to play with high technology products or software applications instead of traditional toys. Therefore, other than producing quality products, it is very important to promote the true ¡§value of play¡¨ to the public. The setup of Toy Museum is one of the most effective ways. HKTC devotes to organise various activities such as ¡§My Toy Design Competition¡¨ to bring in more new ideas and innovative talents to promote our industry¡¦s sustainability and the value of play.
HKTC will continue to work in accordance with the belief ¡§One Industry, One Mission¡¨ to bring unity to the toy industry, from retailers to brands to factories. It is our aim to develop more quality and innovative toys for consumers. In the coming year, HKTC will put more efforts to help members on ¡§Branding, Upgrading and Domestic Sales¡¨. Together with The Toys Manufacturers¡¦ Association of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Trade Development Council, HKTC will launch a 20-month project, to help members and the industry to reach and develop distribution channels in the Mainland. Through this project, our aim is to strengthen Hong Kong¡¦s reputation as the ¡§World¡¦s Toy Centre¡¨ and underline our determination for industry unity.
As the Chairman of Hong Kong Toys Council, I wish to express my gratitude to all previous Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen, Executive Committee members and members for their dedication and selfless contributions. The leadership of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries is also appreciated and I will make every effort to embrace the Council¡¦s mission in fostering members¡¦ interests.
At last, I ask you all to visit this website often, join our activities and foster idea exchanges to follow the latest developments of the local and overseas toy industry.
